Ryan Malkin, Principal Attorney

Ryan Malkin is an attorney focusing on alcohol beverage and cannabis law. He has extensive experience providing guidance to suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, agencies, and third parties within these regulated industries. As an attorney for a major global wine and spirits supplier, Ryan concentrated on supporting the sales and marketing teams to ensure compliance with rules and regulations in all 50 states.  Ryan utilized his experience and knowledge of the industry to help craft compliant programs to help global brands outperform others in their categories.

Prior to his work at Pernod, Ryan was an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan.  Ryan investigated and prosecuted all manner of crimes, with an emphasis on long-term white collar crime investigations.  Ryan gained unprecedented skills and an understanding of state governmental agencies. 

Ryan’s passion for the alcohol industry began as a staff writer for SmartMoney. Ryan specialized in travel and hospitality writing, with an emphasis on the beverage alcohol industry, covering both brands and category trends. Ryan regularly interviewed executives, brand owners, producers, and industry experts to provide guidance to readers. Ryan also regularly interviewed nightclub and bar owners, designers, managers, and doormen to bring new ventures and cocktail trends to life, and giving Ryan insight into the bar and nightclub business. His articles have appeared in such publications as Beverage Media, Liquor.com, The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, DJTimes, and Esquire to name a few.

Ryan is a regular contributor to Craft Spirits Magazine, Artisan Spirit, VinePair and SevenFiftyDaily. Ryan and was on the editorial board of the Florida Bar Journal. Malkin Law is also counsel to the American Craft Spirits Association, Florida Craft Spirits Association and Cannabis Beverage Association.

Ryan was named as a Top Alcohol Beverage Lawyer in South Florida in 2021 by South Florida Legal Guide, with Malkin Law also being a Top Alcohol Beverage Law Firm. Ryan was the Top Alcohol Beverage lawyer in South Florida in the 2020 South Florida Legal Guide. Ryan was named a SuperLawyer and Rising Star in the legal community. Ryan was named one of the top 250 cannabis law experts.

Ashley Hanke,  Attorney

Ashley Hanke is an attorney at Malkin Law P.A. practicing alcohol beverage and cannabis law. Ashley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Juris Doctorate from Western New England University, School of Law.

She has had a long-standing interest in the alcohol and cannabis industry and her desire to pursue a career in the field was solidified after working on a vineyard in Tuscany. During this experience, she was involved in the wine making process from beginning to end and developed an understanding of the intricacies of the industry starting from the acquisition of real estate to carrying out agricultural activities, as well as, vinification, labeling, sales, and exportation.

Prior to joining Malkin Law P.A., Ashley worked as a Legal Director of the Fair Housing Justice Center in New York City where she oversaw a staff of fifteen and gained specialized expertise in compliance, land use and zoning, and local, state, and federal civil rights laws. Ashley supervised some of the most complex and cutting-edge investigations for the organization, many of which led to litigation under local, state, and federal fair housing laws.

Her practice at Malkin Law includes formula and label approvals, trademark and copyright clearances and registrations, compliance research, federal and state licensing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of agreements, and other matters affecting the alcohol beverage industry.

Ashley was named a SuperLawyer Rising Star in 2021. She is also a regular contributor to Artisan Spirit magazine.

Cátia Kossovsky – Of Counsel

Cátia Kossovsky is Of Counsel to Malkin Law. She has more than seventeen years of corporate transactional experience. Having worked at two AM200 law firms, in New York, and in Pittsburgh, she has vast experience in the areas of general corporate law, commercial transactions, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, private equity (including fund formation), venture capital financing, regulatory compliance, and securities filings. Additionally, Cátia also has experience with cross‐border transactions, specifically with a focus on Latin America, and has conducted corporate governance, compliance monitoring, and management of operational risk.

Cátia sits on the Board of the International Cannabis Bar Association and is the Chair of the Allegheny County (PA) Bar Association’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Committee. She is an avid speaker and writer in cannabis law and regulation.

 

Luciana Salinas  – Of Counsel

Luciana Salinas is of counsel to Malkin Law. Luciana holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from the University of Miami, a Master of Arts degree in International Relations, Europe – Latin America from the University of Bologna, and a Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University Law School. She is admitted to practice law in New York and Florida.

Luciana focuses on business law, assisting clients in a wide array of corporate transactions, including entity formation and governance, private financings, and general commercial matters. She also assists in matters concerning compliance research and state licensing.
